WASHINGTON�In light of the recent earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reminds Japanese nationals of certain U.S. immigration benefits available upon request.
USCIS understands that a natural disaster can affect an individual�s ability to establish or maintain lawful immigration status. Temporary relief measures available to eligible nationals of Japan may include:
The grant of an application for change or extension of nonimmigrant status for an individual currently in the United States, even when the request is filed after the authorized period of admission has expired;
Re-parole of individuals granted parole by USCIS;
Extension of certain grants of advance parole, and expedited processing of advance parole requests;
Expedited adjudication and approval, where possible, of requests for off-campus employment authorization for F-1 students experiencing severe economic hardship;
Expedited processing of immigrant petitions for immediate relatives of U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents (LPRs);
Expedited employment authorization where appropriate; and
Assistance to LPRs stranded overseas without immigration documents such as Green Cards. USCIS and the Department of State will coordinate on these matters when the LPR is stranded in a place that has no local USCIS office.

Any idea how long it takes to get 485 approved. I applied on EB1. My I-140 was approved in Jan07. Any idea about FBI check I mean Background check,Name check and other checks.....how much time it takes....
And in case if it stck where it could be and how to check the status of that stuck??????????????/

My company has just changed the rules. From now they are unwilling to pay the costs incurred in the visa extensions for the spouse.

How long is the AP valid? And does the clock start ticking from the date of AP application or from the date of AP approval?

The first status is that USCIS has approved your EAD and ordered for a card. The second status means that they mailed you the card. You should get the card in next 5 business days.

I just noticed that the I-140 my lawyer submitted 3 months ago to Nebraska has a typo in my DOB (21/07/2978 instead of 21/07/1978). Yes its a thousand years out! A copy of my latest I-94 and visa both showing my correct DOB were also submitted with the I-140.
Do any of you guys think I'll have the I-140 rejected, recieve an RFE, or will the Nebraska officer just use common sense and amend it himself? What do you reccomend I do if anything?
Since it is 140, your attorney or you company HR can call up and get this corrected, They will give you a service number. Also they will ask for an email address after 45 days you will get an email that it will be corrected when the file is being reviewed by an officer.

Yes you can travel with latest approval notice and pay stubs although they most likely won't even ask for it. You do not need new visa before travelling back to US.

I saw that too, but my problem is that i already had an appt for 3rd week of dec but I had an issue with my passport. Had to send papers for getting my name changed to my married name on the passport as the latest I797 i received was on my married name (noticed this only recently). Now I cannot change the name, passport etc on an existing appointment so will have to cancel the one I have. And currently only emergency appts are available for 3rd and 4th week of dec. Hence the dilemma!!!!!

My lawywer mentioned that they could file Monday July 2nd for packet delivery on Tuesday July 3rd. What is the definitnion of the filing date? Is it done electronically so that the filing date is Monday (the date the packet is sent) and delivery date is Tuesday? Or is the delivered date the filing date.

If you are on H1 then the ticket should be provided for by your employer - that is my understanding of the law.
